How the grant works

The Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan — part of the UK-wide Boiler Upgrade Scheme — helps homeowners replace fossil-fuel heating with a clean, efficient heat pump. You can claim up to £9,000* as a grant you never repay (a standard grant plus a rural and island uplift), with an optional interest-free loan available to spread any remaining cost.

Why now is the time

With oil and LPG prices volatile, and the grant covering a large share of a typical install, the payback on switching has never been stronger — especially for off-grid homes across Banffshire and the wider North-East. Pair your heat pump with solar thermal and the savings grow further.

How we help

The grant funding is arranged by you, the homeowner, directly with Home Energy Scotland. We make that simple: we carry out a free home survey, design the right system for your property, and give you the MCS-certified, fixed-price quote you need to apply — and we are always happy to point you in the right direction.

Grant FAQs

How much is the heat pump grant in Scotland?
Homeowners can claim up to £9,000* as a non-repayable grant towards an air, ground or water source heat pump (a standard grant plus a rural and island uplift), with an optional interest-free loan available on top. *Amounts may vary per project.
Who is eligible?
You need to own the property, have a valid EPC with no outstanding loft or cavity-wall insulation recommendations, and be replacing a fossil-fuel heating system. The install must be carried out by an MCS-certified installer — which we are.
Do I claim the grant myself?
Yes — the grant funding is arranged by you, the homeowner, directly with Home Energy Scotland. Our job is to make that straightforward: we carry out the survey, design the right system and give you the MCS-certified, fixed-price quote you need to apply. We are always happy to point you in the right direction.
Does my oil, LPG or electric home qualify?
Yes — homes off the mains-gas grid heated by oil or LPG are exactly where a heat pump makes the biggest saving, and homes currently heated by direct electric (panel or storage heaters) also qualify for the grant. Rural and island properties may qualify for the higher amount.

*Grant amounts and eligibility are set by Home Energy Scotland and may vary per project. You apply for the funding directly; we provide the survey, design and quote you need. Find out more and apply at homeenergyscotland.org or call them on 0808 808 2282.
